An Operator in Western Australia charters an FPSO which produces 144,000 bbl/day of water. At least 90% of the annual produced water volume is reinjected and during normal operations, 7% of the annual produced water volume will be discharged overboard.

The FPSO was brought to a shipyard in Singapore for upgrading the production capacity and extending the operational lifetime of the vessel. The upgrade included the installation of a CFU skid (Compact Flotation Unit) and a Typhoon® Valve System to improve the quality of the produced water satisfying the national environmental requirements.

The Typhoon® Valve System is installed in parallel to a conventional (globe) control valve and feeds the CFU. With the CFU in steady operation, and with similar inlet feed oil concentrations (OiW ~110ppm), the oil concentrations out of the CFU where compared between the Typhoon® Valve System and the conventional valve feeding the CFU.

The comparison shows that the Typhoon® Valve System delivers impressive improvement in water quality of ~23% over a conventional globe valve.
