TOTAL E&P NORGE supports R&D project

Typhonix and TOTAL cooperate on R&D within EOR by reducing mechanical degradation of polymers for use in reservoir flooding operations.

The primary depletion and secondary water flooding of oil reservoirs typically recover only 20-50% of original oil in place, and hence the majority of oil still remains trapped after the application of these conventional processes. Polymer flooding is a mature technology and still the most important EOR chemical method in sandstone reservoirs based on a review of full-field case histories.

The overall objective of the project is to develop and design a process for low shear injection of polymer which reduces the mechanical degradation of the polymer. The project has a total budget of 15 MNOK where 6,75 MNOK is rewarded from the Research Council's Petromaks 2 programme.
