On both onshore and offshore activities, the European Commission suggests considering technology to preventing shearing oil droplets during treatment, such as low shear valves and low shear pumps, since larger oil droplets are easier to separate.
The recommendation can be found in the report “Best Available Techniques Guidance Document on upstream hydrocarbon exploration and production,” published recently this year.
